Since it was Hammond's  turn to s elect  the challenge location, the   team went to the  Western Un  ited State s. Jeremy selected the Lexus  LFA, James chose the new Aston Martin Vanquish, and Richar  d too k the SRT Viper. Af ter a brief drive in the Nevada desert,  the trio headed to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, specifically the drag str  ip, to compe te in drag races organ ized by the Las Vegas Police  Department; whom organized it  with  the theory that allowin g people to drag race,  legally, at a c lose d circuit, would prevent stre  et raci ng. Despite the high performanc e of thei  r cars,   the trio were be   aten by  modified pro duction c  ars, and 4W  D cars, in each of their drag races.　　News:  Jeremy comes   up  with  a solution on how to solve the crisis a ffecting Britain' s town centres: sa ckin g al l traffic  warden s and removing double yellow lines. The trio  then review a Ch inese pro  duct designed to stop drowsiness behind the whee  l, before they   took a first look at the 2013   Jaguar F-Ty pe. They praised its  styling, but criticized its high  price tag o f £60,000, as well as its target audience. J  ames mentions Peugeo t Citroen9;s car intended to run o n compressed ai r; Jeremy attempted to use a fire exti nguisher  to demons trat e, but fa iled after only  causing hims elf to t urn slowly aro und.　　Challenge, Part 2  .: Af ter leaving  Las Vegas, James and Richard make fun of Jeremy 's LFA f or lackin g not  only Bluetoot h connection and iPod connectors, but cup holders, despite being  the most e  xpensive car  . They are t hen tas ked to head to W illow  Springs Internat ional Motorsports Park, but th ey instead stop on a grooved road,  where each car d rives ove r the grooves and produces note s. Whe n they rea ch Wil low Springs, they are forced to play an aerial ve rsion of  Laser Quest, whe re they wou ld drive 5  laps around the track , whilst being chased  by two Aermacchi SF.260 armed with laser  guns. In the end , James won  the challe nge by being hit only 17 t imes.　 　Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Fleetwood Ma   c 9;s Mick Fleetwood   drove the Kia Cee&  #39;d a round the Test Tra ck with a lap of 1:4 5.4.　　Challenge, Part 3: Departing Willow Springs, the gro up headed for Los Angeles, Califor nia. I  n orde r to do &qu  ot;re al world&quo t; testing, Richard devised a challenge to  see who cou ld burn the best el evens. The  three inst ead ended up  drawing a phallu s and left LA. The tea m then stayed fo r a night in Palm Springs. Howev er, the pr  oducers gave t hem a fina l chal lenge. The three would drive from  Palm Springs to t he Mexican border at C alexico the followin   g morning, and the last to mak e it to the Mexic  an border woul d have  to travel into the country itself to drive the Mastretta M XT, a Mexican sports car made fu n of by the presenter s in  an earlier s eries, f or a later segment on the  show. In re venge for taking them  to Ame rica, Jeremy and James  sabotaged Hammond9;s Viper, c ausing him to lose 10  minutes in the race. Desp ite making a stop for fu el, Jeremy m ade it to th e finish  line first, with James in se cond. Richard then walked to the bor der being the l  ast  person to  arrive. At the studio, James and Jeremy end by saying that t he Vi  per was awful and that  the Va nquish and LF A were amazing.　　150 Series 1  9, Episode 3 10  February 2013 Amy  Macdonald　　Review: Jeremy revie ws the To  yota GT 86 and the  Subaru BRZ. The cars are almost  identical,  but Jer emy prefer s the Toyota  GT86. The  Stig t hen completed a lap of the Test Track in  1:31:3 .　　   News: Th ey discuss  the new Sub aru Impreza , whic h is not coming to UK, and they then talk about  the new Maser ati Quattroporte .　　Chal lenge, Pa  rt 1: The producers have rese rved a sing le ticket to a football match at the Sa n Siro in Milan, Nort   hern Italy. The t rio have  a race from W embley St adium to the San Siro. Jer emy d rives the Shelby Mustang G T500 a nd Ri  chard a nd James t ravel o n public transport. Similar to the previous race to Monte Carlo, Richard  and James ar e not allowed to use an y cars, and  Jeremy i s not all  owed to  use any tr ains. Accord ing to Jerem y, si nce the last epic race, the trains have b  ecome fa ster and bo ats have bec ome slower.  Richa rd and James  opened up a big lead whilst tra velling o n the E  urostar, and arrive in Pa ris wh ile Jeremy was still  crossing the En  glish Channel on a ferry. After reachin g France, Jeremy discovers t  hat the Mustang only holds 50 litre s in its fuel tank.  After leaving P aris, Richard  and James discuss  what to do upon arr iving  in Milan — as there are two of them but only one   ticket. Hundreds of miles behi nd, Jeremy ends part 1 of the challenge s tating out loud, &quot;I&#39;m gonna  lose!&q  uot; 　　Sta  r in a Reasonably Priced  Car: A my Macdonald  dro  ve the Kia Cee&# 39;d around the Test Track in 1:44.  4. During  one of her practice r uns, Amy accident ally destroyed one  of the runway lights, which Jere my gives to  her after reveal ing the lap  time.　　Challenge, Part 2: The high speed TGV slowed down   as it approached  the mountains that s urround Northern It aly. Jeremy  began to  cat ch up a nd was nearly  neck and neck with the train , unt il roa d works at the Mont Blanc Tunnel s  low him down. The  train starts t o acc eler ate again and reach es Northern Italy ahead of  Jeremy. Richard and James us e a tube network to g et to the street s near the finish line.  Jame s maintains hi s opposition to run on tele vision a  nd Richard runs off  alone to find the finish line, which is at a bar in the IM  Villa Veuve Cliequot. James then assembled a  bike which he had hidden in one o f his bags  and rides to the bar , only to find that Richard is already there  and has won the race  and the ticket to  the footb all match. Jeremy&#39;s team w  ins.　　152 Series 19, E pisode 5 24 Fe bruary 2013 James McAvoy　　Challenge, Pa rt 1: Jerem  y and Richard attempt to design a car tar geted at  elderly people. Jeremy demonstrates the comp lexity of  modern cars ' dshbo ard. Richard  brings a Fiat M ultipla and both mo dify it . Jeremy b reaks the dashboard and r eplaces i t considering it to be too compl icated for elders. Ric  hard asks for th e air bags saying that it i s dangerous  for the el  derly who ar e as delicate as chil   dren, and t hat he n eeds it for a safet y feature. Jer emy makes a  speedometer which reads 20 mph at   the top  speed, he also uses an old design switch for rear fog light which does nothing.  Jeremy ins talls a pet-cage and replaces the back seat wit  h high seat chairs and the Fiat badge w ith a Rover one. They paint it in beige  after obser ving  the shade of a hearing  aid. Ri chard use s wa ter-resis tant fabric a s seat covers, a  nd while stitchin g hur ts his e ye. They complete the ca r and end the part 1 wit h Richard wearing  heavy banda ges over his left eye.　　News: Volkswagen will l aunch GTI versio  n of the new Golf and GT version of Up will be launched. The new car is comp letely rede signe d, 400 kg lighter due  to Aluminiu m body, ha s active su spension,  new gearbox, min  imalist dashboard and of fers better  comfort. Ja mes then races it a gainst Ter raMax at N evada Automotive Test Centre, Nevada. The race was to a hill 10 mile  across, passin g thr  ough rocky terrain , hillock,  mud, rive r and sand-tracks. T erraMax   was swi  tched to drone mode d uring  the race  to defla te the tyres and take a short-cut. The Range Rover   9;s automa tic Terrain Response  System is demonst rated.  James takes a longer route to ascen d the hill  but still wi ns the race. At th e studio,  the trio consider the driverles s cars to be not v ery practi cal.　　Star In A Reasonab ly Priced  Car: James McAv oy drove the Kia Cee' ;d aroun  d the Test Track with  a lap of 1:43.6 despite having less exper ience  of driving  cars.  He drove o ver grassy patch in  the last co  rner but manages to keep the car under contr ol.　　Challen  ge, Part 2: Jeremy and Rich ard roa d-test their car at Christchurch,   Dor set.  The car ha s large fro  nt bumpers made up of f  oam,  lar ge rear-v iew mirrors , sq ueaking ball under the brake-p edal, large magnifying-gl ass on the da shboard, sat nav (voiced by Richard Briers) with only four destinatons. T he car has an  artificial  cat on the roof whi ch later fell over on the way of Bingo hall. Richard later sh ows his system to find the location of  parked car  (the car  activ  ates  a flare and then  releases a b  alloon). Jeremy show s that  the radio only plays  Horse   of the Year Sho w them e on a loop, which b oth later find to be  irresistible to  clap along. The name of the  car i s revea led to be The James. They  pick up t hree elderly ladies from a pensioners' hom e for road-testing and  drive them to a bowling cl ub where it is shown that Richard fitted  the a irbag at the rear for parking ass ist wh ich inflates the airbag on close proximity. Jeremy and Richard buy foo d for picnic , choosing only Bri tish foods. They  attach the shopp ing trolley to Tow hitch and head for picni c. T he ro of of the car leaks as it rains. Jeremy a nd Richard end  up choosing a picnic spot on   roadside where they find the t rolley to be damaged during reve rsing and the food to be  soaked, h owever they at e the food which was n ot ruined. The next day b oth l  eave Christchurch and Jere my show s his system to pre  vent t he car from  being driven on the wrong side of the road, the car initially s ounds alarm and la  ter the tyres, doors and other parts of  the car  explode which stops the car a  nd renders i t immobile.  At the studio, James  consid ers the heat er to be complicated,  the trio  thank Richard Briers and announce th e Africa speci al.　 　153 Ser ies 19, E  pisode 6 3 March 2013 No Guest　　First of the  two-episo de Africa Speci al, taking place in Africa. The episode was shot in 2012.　　Challenge, Part 1: Buy used estate cars fo r up to £1,500 in Britain and report at a small village in rural Ugan da. Jeremy  arrives in a BMW 528i Touring, Richard in a Subaru  Impreza  WRX Estate and James in a Vo  lvo 850 R Wagon. The challenge  is t  o find the  true sourc e of the riv  er Nile.　　They set off an discover that expl  oring  isn&# 39;t as diff icult a s first tho ught when th ey go on a  nice easy  driv  e and find Lake Victo ria, of  who m the Victorian  Explorers though t was the so urce of the Nile. However they  are then told that it  is not the actual source of the Ni le and there we  re two other disputed locations for it, one in  Rwanda and one  in Burundi.  How  ever , Jeremy Cla rkso n in  sisted that   both of  these l ocat ions were wrong an d decided to head west toward s Lake Edward  to see whether there was a link between that l ake and Lake Ki  vu in Rwanda.　　In their journey wes t, wh  ere  they visit the En tebbe Airport  and from there  see the  Ford  Scor pio Estate back-u p car. T  hey continue into Kamp ala, Uganda's Capital City wh ere they get held up  in a tr affic jam overnight, t he mos t hurrendous traffic they'd eve r seen.　　 They continue  on  well-maintained highwa ys west finding their trip incredibly easy before reachi ng the town   of Mbarara in the southwe  st of the co untry, via a stop  in Jez za, a villa ge in Mpigi District. Here they  stay in a disgu sting hotel,   after drivi ng through tea pla ntations   in an attempt to  discover a  lovely teah ouse hotel, which in the mind of Ric  hard, was bo und to  found d  ue to   tea  programmes he'd se en.　　In Mbarara th ey s tayed in  the E  conomic Lodge with Jeremy having a  bed with faeces on it. They left the h otel disgusted bef ore Richard has the i dea t o make the cars &#39;hotels&#39;.  James modif ies his Vol  vo by adding a library, Richard ad   ds a cooker  and Je  remy adds a coffin  . The coffin  he uses  to put h is clothes in, he sleep  s on Egypti an Cotton.　　T  hey leave fo r Lake Edward,  campin  g overnight the re because of its beauty before heading in search of  the river heading for Lak e Kivu. None  of the rivers connect the lake as the y all head east rather t han south. They  give u p, leaving t hem d isappo inted. Then  Jeremy lo  oks  at a map and  discovers the   sour ce o f the Nile must be on the other   side of L ake Victoria. His reasoning is that the Mediterrane an Sea i s effectively an inl and sea a  nd so Gibraltar is the tr ue mouth of the Nile, r ather than Alexandr ia in Egy pt.　　After dis  covering  this they decide tha   t they must drive straight to the other side of Lake Vic toria to  get to the sou theast coast in  Tanzania ne ar the Ser engeti.
