Miss Yang and Mi ss Hong, who are wel l experie nced in this type of business, are use d to accep ting propositions from customers. But Se-young, who is da ting a college student named Min- su, rejects all requ ests fo r sexual favors. When M in-su pro fess es to having pro blems w ith h is tuition and finances , Se-young reassures h im that she will procure the necess ary funds for him. When the bar's clien tele begins to dwindl e because of Se-young , Ji-su k reprimands her severely. Se-young d evelops a c lose re lationship with a Capt ain Pa k and even all ows him to sleep wi th her. She asks Cap tain Pak to find Min-su employment on a boat, but when Mi n-su comes to Sokcho for his new job, he se es how Se-young has been making her l iving. Shocked, he turns h is back on t he job and leaves. When he eventuall y returns t o So kcho, he scathingly denounces Se- young' s morality an d severs their relati onship. Deca des ago, J i-suk had stumbled into the bar business in a des perate effort to support her husband, who was servi ng time in prison; s he later lef t him vol untaril y out o f sha me and moral d egradation. Concerned that Se-young w ill end up with the same fat e, Ji-su k asks Min-s u to meet with he r. She begs hi m not to ab andon Se-young, but he flatly r efus es.
