Best Amazon Canada Prime Day 2020 deals: Echo Show 5 hits CA$60, the Echo Dot drops to CA$25

Amazon Prime Day 2020 is underway in countries around the world, and Canada is no exception. The two-day shopping event runs through the end of the day (Pacific Time) Wednesday, Oct. 14. We’ve pulled some the most notable deals we’re seeing at Amazon Canada, and compiled them below. (Check out Amazon Canada’s press release for the full list of discounts the retailer has promised.)

As in the US, Amazon’s smallest Echo display device is already available at a discount, returning to its lowest ever price of CA$60. That’s a whopping 40% off. The price is expected to stay at this level now through Oct. 14.

Asia Business Leaders Show Signs Of Optimism, But Expect Layoffs To Continue

Chinese astrology has it that 2020 is a “metal rat” year, and is associated with turbulence. Covid-19 has certainly provided a quantum of it. With a steep market dive in the first quarter, and sharp worldwide economic contraction, Asian business has had a rough ride. As star signs go, 2020 has so far lived up to its ratty astrological reputation.

The results of a survey conducted from August to September of Hong Kong-based Asia Business Council’s members, who are the chairmen and CEOs of some of Asia’s leading multi-national companies, collectively valued at nearly $3 trillion, and with some 3 million employees, offer insights against the turbulent backdrop of a year dominated by Covid-19. With a response rate of 83% (58 out of 70 members), the results showed a latent optimism and the confidence to re-tool investment focus. Though the outlook for job growth remains uncertain, not surprisingly, these leaders ranked public health and geopolitics as top concerns for their businesses.

A lot of numbers follow here, but they are very telling. When asked their outlook for business conditions in Asia over the next 12 months, and in spite of significant declines in their own revenues, half said they expect to see an improvement, while 33% expect conditions to worsen. Though not a table-pounding endorsement, this is a significant change from 2019, when 55% expected conditions to worsen.

Only 16% of members foresee a prolonged downturn or depression, and just 5% anticipate inflation. The wide distribution of an effective vaccine for Covid-19 is viewed as a pre-condition for a return to pre-pandemic economic levels–an opinion expressed by 91%—that speaks well of the latent, “coiled-spring” potential of

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digital transformation of businesses, since not being able to sell in physical spaces, they looked for ways to continue operating through the internet. In this context, Mercado Libre presented a campaign called ” Let’s put the economy in gear ” with the aim of making visible the stories of all the entrepreneurs who are part of the economic reactivation of Latin America.

The company seeks to inspire progress and solidarity through the message: “behind each purchase made within the platform there is an entire economy starting up.”

“During the pandemic, thousands of SMEs and startups throughout Latin America were digitally reconverted. Mercado Libre wants to motivate Latin American entrepreneurs to join the platform and see us as an ally in the economic recovery. We are proud to be together to all these entrepreneurs and support them side by side, until the best comes, “Hernán Cieri, Marketing Director of Mercado Libre México, said in a statement .

The company accompanies the thousands of projects that had to change their business model, with an ecosystem of value that includes technological, financial, training and labor inclusion tools throughout the region where the platform operates. In Mexico alone, the ecommerce platform has managed to add more than 8,000 SMEs since March 24, which means around 45 a day.

Facebook Restricts Page Of Talk Show Host Mark Levin

Facebook has restricted the distribution of the page belonging to conservative talk show host Mark Levin for “repeated sharing of false news,” according to a notice from the largest social media giant Levin shared on his account on Parler.

Levin, a staunch defender of President Donald Trump and a fierce critic of the mainstream media, denies that he’s misled anyone and accused Facebook of “censorship” and “pushing a left-wing agenda.” 

“Every link I post is from a legitimate source,” Levin wrote on Parler, a social media site favored by conservatives. “But because so many people are seeing what I’m posting and we’re within weeks of the election, it’s clear that Facebook is trying to influence the election’s outcome.” 

It wasn’t clear which posts Facebook found objectionable. The official Facebook page for The Mark Levin Show has more than 1.5 million followers and more than 1.5 million likes. Levin has the fourth-largest audience in talk radio, according to Talker’s magazine. He also hosts Life, Liberty, and Levin on Fox

is a frequent guest on the top-rated news channel.

“Mark Levin is an important thought leader with broad influence and wide reach,” said Parler CEO John Matze in a press release. “Millions of Americans look to him for news and analysis. Whether one agrees with him or not, it is important that Mr. Levin’s voice be heard. Those who disagree with him should debate him and refute his arguments, not try to silence him.”

An email seeking comment from Levin via his syndicator Westwood One wasn’t answered.

Facebook came under fire in 2016 to prevent Russian hackers and other bad actors from using the site to influence the outcome of the election.
