Apple Pay Landing Page Goes Live on Apple’s Mexico Website, Suggesting Imminent Launch

Apple added an Apple Pay landing page to its regional Mexico website late on Tuesday, indicating the mobile payment system could launch in the country imminently.


Way back in March there were suggestions that Apple Pay could be coming to Mexico, after reports that some iPhone users in the country had been able to add their Banregio cards to the Wallet app, with only the verification process failing.

Cards from banks other than Banregio were not able to be added to the Wallet app on the ‌‌iPhone‌‌, suggesting ‌‌Apple Pay‌‌ in Mexico could be limited to Banregio at launch.

That’s still uncertain, since the ‌Apple Pay‌ page on Apple’s Mexican website offers no launch date and doesn’t list any banks that will integrate with the service. All it says is ‌Apple Pay‌ will be compatible with “credit and debit cards of the most important payment networks, issued by various banks,” which sounds a lot like Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

When ‌‌Apple Pay‌‌ launches in Mexico, it will be the second country in Latin America to support the payments service. Apple launched ‌‌Apple Pay‌‌ in Brazil in 2018, but has not expanded it to other Latin America countries. ‌‌Apple Pay‌‌ has also been available in the United States and Canada for years.

I’m the founder of a company with a predominantly female team. That seems like a strange opening statement for a male CEO–and that’s part of the problem we’re dealing with in business today. 

Throughout my career, I’ve encountered mainly male-dominated spaces. Unfortunately, that isn’t surprising in the tech and marketing fields, in some countries more so than others. However, I see a distinct lack of female representation and leadership across all industries globally. And there is a gender pay gap that, by some estimates, won’t resolve for another 257 years.

What Experience Has Taught Me

I’ve worked in a male-dominated environment, a female-dominated environment, and even a mixed environment. From my experience, a mix of male and female energy produces the best business outcomes. A diverse workplace culture with a good representation between genders, ethnicity, race, and heritage is the key to creating a dynamic and successful workforce. 

Mixing people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds creates a melting pot of growth opportunities. It creates the possibility for innovation and something new. Isn’t that what progress is all about?

In creating my current company, it dawned on me that if I only hired the same candidate time and again, my business wouldn’t change. It would simply be a constant remodeling of the old. Why not try something new and see what happens?

For about two months, options traders have consistently shelled out more for bullish three-month contracts on the stock than they’re willing to pay for those protecting against losses, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That’s kept Tencent’s so-called volatility skew below zero, an unusual quirk for a market that typically sees traders pay more for downside protection than upside speculation.

Asia’s second-largest corporation by market value and eighth globally is growing revenue at its fastest pace in years, lifted by an explosion in internet activity — and mobile gaming in particular — amid China’s world-leading recovery from Covid-19. The 33% stock surge in the first half of this year plateaued after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning U.S. entities from dealing with Tencent’s signature app WeChat.

While Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and upstarts like ByteDance Ltd. are challenging its position, Tencent continues to serve the country’s largest user base and dominate in gaming, the most profitable class of smartphone app.

The company is set to report third quarter results on Nov. 12. Its net income is expected to grow 45% following a prior-year decline, with revenue projected to rise 28% from a year earlier, according to the consensus estimates of analysts tracked by Bloomberg.
