ASML signals double-digit annual growth as quarterly sales jump

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – Semiconductor equipment maker ASML Holding NV ASML.AS on Wednesday posted a better-than-expected quarterly earnings and forecast a double-digit growth for next year on strong end-demand for electronics devices.

The company reported sales of 3.96 billion euros ($4.65 billion) in the third quarter ended Sept. 30, ahead of analyst estimates of 3.7 billion euros, and a net profit of 1.06 billion euros. In the third quarter of 2019, ASML reported net profit of 627 million euros and sales of 3 billion euros.

ASML Chief Financial Officer Roger Dassen forecast sales of 3.7 billion euros in the fourth quarter and said the company expected “low double digit” growth in 2021.

ASML has a near monopoly on lithography systems, enormous machines that can cost up to $200 million each and play a vital role in the manufacture of computer chips, mapping out their circuitry.

ASML’s customers include major chipmakers, notably global market leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd 2330.TW, followed by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd 005930.KS and Intel Corp INTC.O.

Although ASML’s financial performance has not yet been hurt by U.S.-China tensions, it could be affected by a split in the supply lines for semiconductor production, which is highly integrated globally.

The Dutch company had already halted plans to sell its most advanced equipment to China after the U.S. government pressured the Netherlands not to grant export licenses under “dual use” military applications.

Last month, Washington asked U.S. equipment makers to seek a license to ship any equipment to SMIC, China’s oldest and biggest computer chipmaker, over military concerns.

The new U.S. trade curbs on SMIC mean ASML must now apply for a license to sell even older-generation equipment to

Enterprise software specialist IFS on the hunt for partners in growth push – Software

Enterprise software vendor IFS has ramped up its efforts to recruit channel partners in Australia as the company looks to scale up its business in the country.

Sweden-headquartered IFS is a vendor of enterprise software for customers that manufacture and distribute goods, maintain assets, and manage service-focused operations. Some of its offerings include an ERP, enterprise asset management and service management software.

IFS ANZ managing director Warren Zietsman told CRN the company made investments to help scale up the business locally and help power intelligent and autonomous enterprises in Australia.

“A robust and vibrant ecosystem is critical to the success of any software vendor, and as such, the growth of our partner ecosystem here in Australia is one of our biggest goals right now,” he said.

“We want to have a strong network of SI partners and Channel partners who are experts in their respective fields. Our singular focus has always been and always will be to design and build solutions that create value for our customers.”

Zietsman added that prospective partners can expect IFS to be a vendor partner that can keep pace and support their businesses.

IFS categorises its partners into three groups – system integrators, channel partners and implementation partners.

System integrators would be those that specialise in change management, business improvement management and integration work.

Channel partners meanwhile buy IFS software on behalf of a customer, but IFS generally won’t add extra resources.

Implementation partners are those that would assist IFS in direct deals involving larger and more complex customer projects.

The company is also targeting five core industries in Australia, with “ambitious growth targets” for manufacturing, aerospace and defence, service management, engineering, construction and infrastructure, and energy, utilities and resources.

“Over the past two years, IFS has intensified its focus on developing and expanding its

Wipro shares fall nearly 7% as organic growth, revival plan disappoint

By Sethuraman N R

BENGALURU (Reuters) – Shares of Wipro Ltd fell 6.8% on Wednesday, a day after the software services firm posted quarterly organic revenue growth that was lower than peers and disappointed some investors with its plans to revive growth.

Chief Executive Officer Thierry Delaporte, who took the helm in July, said on Tuesday Wipro would focus more on large deals and “prioritize the markets and sectors that are relevant,” without giving more details.

The commentary let down some investors who were hoping for more concrete steps from a company that has underperformed its rivals in the recent past.

“The strategic roadmap from the CEO to revive growth was not as strong as it was expected to be,” IDBI Capital research analyst Urmil Shah said.

Wipro also saw a decline in revenue from its key markets of the Americas and Europe in the second quarter as clients cut spending, but some new deals helped to keep overall revenue largely flat at 151.15 billion rupees ($2.06 billion).

“Organic growth was down 4.5% year-on-year, lower than Accenture Plc (down 3%) and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 3.2%),” AMP analysts said.

Quarterly profit also fell and missed analysts’ estimates.

Wipro said it expects revenue at its IT services business to be in the range of $2.02 billion to $2.06 billion in the December quarter, lower than the $2.09 billion it earned a year earlier.

The company approved a 95 billion rupees share buyback at 400 rupees per share.

“While the quantum of buyback was largely in line with our expectations, the buyback price was a disappointment,” ICICI Securities said in a note.

Wipro shares were set for their biggest one-day percentage loss since April in a weak broader market, while rival Infosys Ltd was down 0.2% ahead of quarterly results later
