W hen Min-su professes to having p robl ems with his tuition and finances, Se-young reas sures him that sh e will procure t he necessary fu nds for him. When the b ar's clie ntele begins to d windle because of Se-youn g, Ji-s uk reprima nds he r sev erely. Se-young d evelops a close r elationship with a Captain Pak and even all ows him to sl eep with her. She asks Captai n Pak to f ind Min-su emplo yment on a boa t, but when Min-su comes to Sokcho for hi s new job, he see s how Se- youn g has been making her living. Shocked, h e turns his back on the job and lea ves. When he eventually returns t o Sokcho, he scathingly d enounces Se-young's morality and se vers their rela tionship. De cades ag o, J i-suk had stumbled into the bar b usiness in a desper ate effort t o sup port her husba nd, who was serving time in prison; she later left him voluntaril y out of shame and mo ral degr adation. Concerned that Se-youn g will end up with th e same fate, Ji-suk asks Min-su to meet wit h her. She begs him not to abandon Se-young, but h e fl atly refuses.
