Tesla Model X Range Increased?

While most of the attention on Tesla’s vehicle lineup today was on the Model S due to a $3,000 price cut, there may be an interesting development happening for the Model X as well. Tesla Motors Club forum member ColdWeatherEV recently took delivery of a brand new Model X and shared some details about the vehicle in a post on the forum.

“I just took delivery of a 2021 Model X, VIN 308XXX, and I was surprised to see that the EPA Monroney sticker lists the range at 371 miles,” writes the user. The Monroney sticker is a required label in the US for all new vehicles and contains official information about the car.

On Tesla’s website, the currently-listed EPA range for the Long Range Plus Model X is just 351 miles, 20 miles lower than the range listed on the Monroney sticker of this new delivery. While this is just one source, the user did share images of the Monroney sticker.

2021 MX

Tesla has a history of rolling out updates without announcement, so a longer range Model X is not outlandish. If 371 miles of range is accurate, it would represent a nearly 6% gain. Tesla’s online design studio will be closely watched over the coming days, especially as updates to the Model 3 trickle out.

Invoca Study Finds Increased Role of Website Experience and Customer Service in Big-Ticket Purchases During COVID-19

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Oct. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — There’s no denying that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our lives: it is changing the way we work, how we interact with family and friends, and the way we shop. A new report from Invoca, “High-Stakes Purchases and Consumer Confidence in the COVID Era,” highlights data from a survey of 500 U.S. adults to understand specifically how consumers are approaching expensive and complex purchases in this new environment. The data uncovers important findings for businesses aiming to give consumers confidence in making these complicated purchases online. 

Despite the economic downturn brought on by COVID, Invoca’s report finds people are still making high-stakes purchases, such as cars, insurance policies, wireless plans, and big-ticket home improvement items. However, they’re changing the way they research and buy these items, in many cases moving entirely online. For example, the survey found online purchases in automotive grew 115% since March and increased 85% in home services. That said, consumers have important concerns when shopping online: People are most concerned that they won’t be able to verify the product or service quality before purchasing (36%), that they’ll choose the wrong product or service (22%), that refunds will be complicated (21%) and that they won’t get the best deal (19%).

Given the level of cost and complexity these types of purchases require, the report uncovered how brands can help consumers feel more confident when it comes to making these purchases online.

AI Adoption Accelerates during COVID-19 Pandemic; 68% of US Businesses Increased Investment in AI Technologies

The adoption of new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and further investment in existing AI technologies accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study released today by RELX, a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools for professional and business customers. The study also reveals that overall implementation of AI technologies across the business landscape increased for the third consecutive year.

The 2020 RELX Emerging Tech Executive Report marks the third edition of the survey and provides a three-year overview of AI adoption. It features insights from business leaders across eight industries (government, healthcare, insurance, legal, science/medical, banking and agriculture) and covers AI’s impact on businesses’ success, the future of work, global competition, ethics, and the global COVID-19 response. More than 1,000 U.S. senior executives were surveyed.

COVID-19 Drove AI Technology Investment and Adoption

COVID-19 is the most pressing issue facing US executives today as it reshapes and disrupts industries across the US. The majority of respondents (68%) increased their investment in AI technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic with 48% investing in new AI technologies and 46% investing further in AI technologies already in use at their companies. Similarly, 63% of business leaders polled report that AI technologies had a positive impact on their business’s ability to stay resilient in the face of the pandemic.

Microsoft CEO Wants Increased Focus on Internet Safety in Social Media

Chief Executive Satya Nadella said that internet safety should be a greater focus for social-media companies and that the software company would have applied some of its experience in that area to video-sharing app TikTok.

“What needs to happen is real reform in social media where internet safety is a top consideration,” Mr. Nadella said Tuesday at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council.

Microsoft during the summer made an unsuccessful bid to buy parts of TikTok and address what the U.S. said were national-security concerns about the app’s ties to China. The Redmond, Wash.-based company withdrew from the running after the Chinese government imposed export restrictions on the kind of software TikTok uses, leaving Microsoft’s cloud-computing rival

in pole position to partner with the app.

Mr. Nadella said TikTok approached Microsoft because it required help dealing with the U.S. government’s concerns.

Consumer-advocacy groups this year filed a complaint against TikTok with U.S. regulators, accusing the social-media powerhouse of flouting a children’s privacy law and breaking a previous settlement agreement over allegations that it illegally collected personal data from users under 13. TikTok agreed to a $5.7 million settlement with federal regulators over claims that it illegally collected personal information from children.

Microsoft, Mr. Nadella said, has experience in dealing with these kind of content issues through its Xbox gaming platform of mostly young users and would have drawn on its experience there to work with TikTok. Although Microsoft is best known for business-focused software, Mr. Nadella said TikTok would have been a good fit because it also sells consumer devices, has a videogaming business and runs professional networking social-media site LinkedIn.

Minecraft Dungeons Shows Off New DLC, Increased Difficulty, And Crossplay

Mojang has shown off some new additions to Minecraft Dungeons during Minecraft Live 2020, including a new paid DLC pack and 20 new free difficulty levels, as well as details on crossplay support. The Minecraft spin-off’s next DLC is called Howling Peaks, and it’ll introduce new snowy biomes and a major new boss to fight.

Howling Peaks will include the new Tempest Golem boss, which can blast adventures with harsh winds. Along with this boss, there will be new missions, items, and mobs introduced alongside these new environments. This is the third DLC for the game, following Jungle Awakens and Creeping Winter.

A new difficulty system is being introduced, too, with 20 new difficulty modes being added through the new Apocalypse Plus system. This will add 20 new difficulties beyond Apocalypse VII, which will allow for more powerful characters and significantly increased challenge. Alongside this, new enchantments and unique items will also be added.

First footage of cross-platform support between the PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Switch versions of the game was also shown during Minecraft Live. This functionality will be added in a free update in the future, which is just one part of the game’s content update calendar. Players will be able to experience crossplay by the time Howling Peaks is available, it seems. The Bedrock Edition of Minecraft already supports crossplay for the majority of systems. In fact, it was one of the first games to support the feature this generation.

Minecraft Dungeons is available on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and PC. Exact dates on the DLC and these updates have not been announced yet. Minecraft Live also brought news of a new Minecraft update centered around its caves.
