Destiny 2: Beyond Light Preorder Info: Editions, Next-Gen Upgrade Details, And More

Destiny 2’s fourth year begins next month, and Bungie isn’t slouching when it comes to celebrating it. Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the next major expansions for Bungie’s shooter-MMO is out November 10, bringing with it a new era for the game. The expansion includes a new campaign, location, and tons of smaller changes to an already huge game. Beyond Light is available to preorder on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Stadia, and is coming to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 as well. As always, there are a number of different editions to get.

Season 11, called Season of Arrivals, kicked off in Destiny 2 back in June, continuing the story of the Guardians in their ongoing battle to save humanity. The chain of events in Season 11 will lead into the upcoming expansion. As a new power emerges from the ancient pyramid ship above Europa, Jupiter’s frozen moon, the Guardians will be called to investigate its harsh frontier, infiltrate the Golden Age Braytech facility, and discover its secrets in Beyond Light. The expansion introduces a new elemental power, Stasis, and a brand-new six-person raid in the Deep Stone Crypt underneath the frozen tundra.

The livestream also confirmed the next major expansions that will come after Beyond Light. Witch Queen will arrive in 2021, while Lightfall will launch in 2022. The next expansions will mark the beginning of a new era in Destiny, according to Bungie.

Bungie also announced Destiny 2 will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. If you purchase Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Xbox One, it’ll be available on Xbox Series X for free because of Xbox Smart Delivery. PS4 purchases will also upgrade to PS5 for free.

Sony Change PS5 Trophies, Microsoft Touts The Series X, & Bungie Reveals Destiny 2: Beyond Light Exotics | Save State

In this video, Persia talks about a since-deleted blurb from a French PlayStation Blog post that mentions a trophy tracking system coming to the PS5 along with additional updates coming to the PS4 this week. This means you’ll now know your exact progress for individual trophies for compatible PS5 games. Other trophy system changes include an update to icons and the level cap being upped to 999. Current trophy levels will scale to a comparable level after the update and will not impact any trophies you’ve already earned.

Persia also talks about Microsoft poking fun at Sony after its teardown video, because you’ll have to do a bit of adjusting to turn the console on its side. A cheeky tweet from Xbox showed how you can simply rotate the Series X onto its side because of its box shape.

Lastly, Persia talks about some of the Exotic weapons and gear that were revealed for Destiny 2: Beyond Light. The Cloudstrike, Lament, Dawn Chorus, and Icefall Mantel are just a few of the new items featured, and they all have their own special effects that benefit their respective classes.

This is your Save State for Wednesday, October 7th.

‘Destiny 2’ Made Two Years Of Content Free, But It’s Deleting It, So What Now?

Probably the single biggest move Destiny 2 made after its split from Activision was making a sizable portion of the game free-to-play. The project was called “New Light,” meant to bring in Guardians from all over the gaming world to try Destiny if they had avoided it so far.

The amount of content offered was substantive. The entire base game of Destiny 2 and all its Red War campaign missions. Then both follow-up DLCs, Curse of Osiris and Warmind. Then most of the content in year 2, Seasons of the Forge, Drifter and Opulence. It’s a hefty mountain of content available for free.

And now, it’s almost all going away.

One thing Bungie has really not talked about at all is how the concept of the Destiny Content Vault is changing the free-to-play premise of New Light. A long, long time ago we got the barest hint that the Cosmodrome’s return would bring some new, New Light intro missions with it, but anything to replace what’s being taken away? There’s just no way.

Pretty much the entire New Light experience is being vaulted, given that almost all year 1 and 2 content is going away. The Red War campaign is gone, with 2 of the 4 planets needed for it being vaulted. Curse of Osiris and Warmind are gone, with Mercury and Mars vaulted. Forges, despite being on Earth and Nessus, are gone. Drifter’s Reckoning and Zero Hour are gone. Opulence’s Menagerie and Tribute Hall are gone. New Light players have lost access to all five raids they had before.

What is…left, exactly? For New Light, as far as we know right now, we are down to the fact that New Light players can visit existing planetary patrol zones (even if they can’t do the
