PS5 Preorder Info: Consoles Currently Sold Out, PS5 Accessories And Games Available

Now that we know the launch date and price points of the PlayStation 5, the long, tense search for a preorder has begun. Launching November 12 at $500 for the standard console and $400 for the digital edition, the PS5 went up for preorder right after the recent PS5 event, and since then, stock has sold out at all major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Target.

GameStop had a second wave of PS5 preorders available to preorder on September 25, both online and in stores. Once again, the retailer had a virtual queue. Multiple GameSpot staff members waited in the queue for more than an hour without any success, so online preorders apparently sold out very quickly once again. GameStop issued an update on Twitter confirming that PS5 stock sold out once again. This included a starter bundle that came with Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate edition, PS Plus, an extra controller for $770.

We’re tracking console availability below, and further down, you’ll find links for where to buy the official PS5 accessories and the biggest PS5 games.

As of our last update, PS5 preorders are sold out at all major retailers.

Which retailers will charge you upfront?

You should know that retailers handle preorders differently when it comes to charging your credit card or PayPal. Amazon doesn’t charge your card until the product ships, while GameStop waits until five days before shipment. Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Sam’s Club will place an authorization hold on your credit card. Though your card won’t actually be charged until the PS5 ships, it’s possible you’ll see a pending charge that will disappear and then come back until release. These authorization holds can affect your available credit.

Black Ops Cold War’ Major PC-Exclusive Feature Confirmed Arriving To Consoles

KEY POINTS

  • “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” arrives on November 13
  • The game is playable on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X and PS5
  • Treyarch recently confirmed that a previous PC-exclusive feature is available in the game’s console versions

“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players should be delighted following the game developer’s confirmation that a massive feature is finally arriving in the game’s console versions.

Earlier today, Treyarch announced on its official Twitter account that the Field of View slider would be available in all “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” platforms. With this feature, players would be able to adjust the width and height of what they could see in the shooter game. More visibility would be available for players using a monitor or television for the screen.

However, Treyarch warned “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players that using a larger FOV could result in lower framerate and graphical issues. Unfortunately, the game developer did not reveal how drastic or non-drastic this drop may be. The FOV feature is one of the major features that console players have long been asking from Activision, but it has remained a PC-exclusive feature-until now.

While some “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players would consider this as a small tweak, it makes a whole lot of difference in a first-person shooter title with potential opponents dispersed across the map that players need to find and eliminate before they get themselves killed. Moreover, the FOV feature would help even the playing field in multiplayer matches.

The new FOV feature of “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” could be found under

Xbox Boss Says Game Pass Streaming Planned For PC And Consoles, Too

Xbox Game Pass games can now be streamed through mobile devices thanks to xCloud, making it much easier than ever before to play The Master Chief Collection on the toilet. But this is just the start of Microsoft’s plans for streaming, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has indicated in a tweet that streaming will make its way to Game Pass on Xbox and PC, too.

Replying to a tweet asking directly whether Game Pass on console and PC would allow for streaming at some point–allowing users to demo a game before committing to a download–Spencer responded saying that they have a plan in the works for this. “It’s in the long list of cool things the xCloud team is working on, just a bit further down the list,” he said.

This means that the feature could be a while off yet, but it’s at least being planned, and we could eventually see Game Pass streaming on these systems.

Microsoft’s recent purchase of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax means that they now has access to the company’s Orion streaming technology, which could be a large part of their future strategy.

Microsoft’s next systems, the Xbox Series X and Series S, will release on November 10. If you’re looking to pick up either system, or some new Xbox games for the end of the year, check out GameSpot’s 2020 Xbox Gift Guide.

PS5 Will Make Dust Removal Much Easier Than Previous Consoles

For all its qualities, it’s not uncommon for people’s launch-era PS4s to sound like a jet engine every time they turn it on now, partly because it’s difficult to clean out any accumulated dust that has built up inside the console. This is true of any vented system, but the PS5 is introducing a very helpful new feature into its design–a “dust catcher” that makes it easy to regularly clean your system out.

In Sony’s teardown video of the PS5, two holes on the console are shown off. These are the dust catchers, where any dust collected by the system’s fan is filtered to. This means that getting rid of the dust in your system–and avoiding a horribly loud fan–is simply a matter of vacuuming them out of these holes.

Removing dust from a system can often be a finnicky job, so this is good news.

The outer facade of the system will need to be removed to access the holes, but as the teardown shows, this is not a complicated procedure. This hopefully means that a launch-model PS5 will have a longer life than has been the case with some previous systems.

The video also highlights the disc drive in the PS5 (if you don’t opt for the digital-only version), which features double insulation to keep down vibration and noise. Hopefully, the PS5 will be a quieter console than the PS4.

The PlayStation 5 begins its international rollout on November 12. Here’s our complete launch guide for Sony’s new system.
