Backward Compatibility, PS4 Game Resolution, PS VR Confirmed

KEY POINTS

  • About 99% of PS4 games will have backward compatibility for the PS5
  • Playing select PS4 games on the new console will see better loading speeds and graphics
  • To enjoy PlayStation VR on the PS5, players will need the PS Camera for PS4

With a month to go before the PlayStation 5 officially launches, Sony has answered a few burning questions for those who are curious about the next-gen console.

Posting on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony dealt mostly with questions regarding backward compatibility and PlayStation VR, and put a few rumors to rest while addressing some things that may have been leaving those curious about the PS5 anxious.

Regarding backward compatibility that was not in the plans for the PlayStation 4 when that system launched, Sony said that this time around 99% of PS4 titles will work on the PS5, confirming something previously teased by Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan.

There is a huge catalog of games already out in the market that can be immediately played on the new console upon its launch. The blog post pointed out two hits from 2020, namely “The Last of Us Part II” and “Ghost of Tsushima,” as titles that will work on the new console at launch.

Aside from the aforesaid PS4 titles, a few other games including the pre-loaded “Astro’s Playroom,” “Sackboy: A Big Adventure,” “Demon’s Souls,” “Destruction AllStars,” and “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” will be available when the PlayStation 5 arrives in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea on Nov. 12.

For those wary about just how different games on the PlayStation 4 will run on the PlayStation 5, Sony promised an even better experience for the older games on the new gaming machine. “Select PS4 titles will see increased loading speeds

Black Ops Cold War’ Major PC-Exclusive Feature Confirmed Arriving To Consoles

KEY POINTS

  • “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” arrives on November 13
  • The game is playable on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X and PS5
  • Treyarch recently confirmed that a previous PC-exclusive feature is available in the game’s console versions

“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players should be delighted following the game developer’s confirmation that a massive feature is finally arriving in the game’s console versions.

Earlier today, Treyarch announced on its official Twitter account that the Field of View slider would be available in all “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” platforms. With this feature, players would be able to adjust the width and height of what they could see in the shooter game. More visibility would be available for players using a monitor or television for the screen.

However, Treyarch warned “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players that using a larger FOV could result in lower framerate and graphical issues. Unfortunately, the game developer did not reveal how drastic or non-drastic this drop may be. The FOV feature is one of the major features that console players have long been asking from Activision, but it has remained a PC-exclusive feature-until now.

While some “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” players would consider this as a small tweak, it makes a whole lot of difference in a first-person shooter title with potential opponents dispersed across the map that players need to find and eliminate before they get themselves killed. Moreover, the FOV feature would help even the playing field in multiplayer matches.

Boris Johnson puts sharp spike in coronavirus cases down to ‘computing issue’

Health officials said the latest figures – a new daily record – were “artificially high” as a result of the error in its Covid data dashboard and admitted that contact tracing had been delayed.

However they insisted that those affected by the glitch between 25 September and 2 October had all received their results and that lockdown decisions in local areas had not been affected.

Labour criticised the situation as “shambolic” and shadow health secretary called on Matt Hancock to come to the House of Commons to face questions.

It came hours after Boris Johnson told the BBC Andrew Marr show that there was “a failure in the counting system which has now been rectified”.

Meanwhile junior health minister Lord Bethell was criticised for making a “tasteless and offensive” claim that the UK will be “extremely proud” of its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think it will be like the Olympics,” he told a Conservative party conference event, “that’s when it’s all over and we look back and reflect, we will actually be extremely proud of ourselves.”

The UK has now passed the total of 500,000 confirmed cases as a result of the recent surge in infections across the country.

NBA 2K21 Release Date For PS5 And Xbox Series X Confirmed

NBA 2K21’s next-generation edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X now has a release date. 2K Sports has confirmed that the next-gen edition will begin its rollout on November 10 as a launch title for the Xbox Series X and S consoles.

The professional basketball game will then arrive for the PS5 as a launch title on November 12 in the console’s launch markets, including the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea. The game will then arrive in other markets around the world on November 19 when the console is released in those places.

NBA 2K21’s next-gen version is a new edition of the game “built from the ground up” for those consoles. Because of that, there is no cross-gen multiplayer support. The game costs $10 more on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Take-Two’s CEO has defended the price increase.

2K has only provided the briefest of snippets of NBA 2K21 for PS5, but what we saw was extremely impressive and the load times were basically non-existent. 2K has yet to provide a full rundown of what the next-gen edition of NBA 2K21 is all about, however.

NBA 2K21’s PS4 and Xbox One edition, which launched in early September, will be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X through backwards compatibility. This will not, however, come with the upgrades of the new consoles. There also isn’t an easy way to pay for these upgrades. People who want to upgrade from the current-gen edition to next-gen must buy the $100 Mamba Forever edition.

GameSpot’s review of NBA 2K21 for PS4/Xbox One scored the game a 6/10. “NBA 2K21 shows that the lone basketball sim we have now has largely stagnated. It’s a full package, for sure, but one that demonstrates little-to-no motivation to meaningfully improve

NBA 2K21 PS5 And Xbox Series X And S Release Dates Confirmed

It’s official.

NBA 2K21 will be a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. On Tuesday, 2K tweeted the confirmed dates for release on its next-gen version that coincides with the launch day for the new consoles.

Along with confirming November 10, 12 and 19th as the big days globally, 2K also slid in what is presumably the first real screen shot of the game.

This image of Zion Williamson yelling appears to be on par with the visual quality of some of the celebrity recreations we’ve seen on next-gen hardware.

The release of the date and the screenshot suggests the first trailer should be coming pretty soon. The latest patch that impacted current-gen might be the last major update before the next-gen release.

It tackled most of the first versions most pressing issues, though there are still members of the community that are dissatisfied. At some point, there needs to be a transition to offer the proper support to the next-gen launch.

2K devs are likely working feverishly to prepare the next-gen version for its debut, and hoping to head off any potential game-breaking issues that could hurt gamers’ experience on their first day with their brand-new system.

It will be interesting to see if Madden and FIFA are also launch titles for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, because it will make for a monumental week in sports video gaming.
